Cancellation guide
How to cancel Verizon
A clear, step-by-step guide to cancelling your Verizon mobile, plus the things worth checking before you leave.
Before you cancel
- You may be in a minimum contract, so leaving early can trigger an early-exit charge. Ask for the exact figure before you agree to anything.
- Expect to be offered a retention discount or loyalty deal to make you stay. If you're sure you want to cancel, stand your ground.
- There may be a notice period, so you can be billed for a short while after you ask to leave. Cancel as early as you can.
- Cancel from the account you actually pay with, and make sure you're the billing owner before you start.
- Always get your cancellation confirmed in writing and keep it.
How to cancel Verizon, step by step
- Pay off any device-payment balance first, it's charged in full on your final bill if you don't.
- Sign in to My Verizon and choose 'Chat with us', type 'Cancel', and follow the prompts (or ask for a live agent).
- Or call Verizon Customer Service on 1-800-922-0204.
- You'll need the account owner's name, phone number, and account PIN (or last 4 of SSN).
- Cancellation takes effect on the last day of the current billing period.

Notice, fees & cooling-off
- Notice period
- No advance notice; cancellation takes effect on the last day of the current billing cycle (no proration), so disconnect near cycle-end. You can cancel a scheduled disconnect until the day before.
- Early-exit charge
- Modern month-to-month plans have no ETF. But any remaining device-payment balance is billed in full on the final bill, and device-promo/BOGO bill credits stop immediately. Fios contracts carry a prorated ETF up to $350 (falls ~$15/mo); unreturned equipment fees apply.
