Cancellation guide

How to cancel Microsoft 365

A clear, step-by-step guide to cancelling your Microsoft 365 Software, plus the things worth checking before you leave.

Before you cancel

  • There's no fixed contract, so you can cancel anytime. Your access simply runs to the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Expect to be offered a retention discount or loyalty deal to make you stay. If you're sure you want to cancel, stand your ground.
  • There may be a notice period, so you can be billed for a short while after you ask to leave. Cancel as early as you can.
  • If you subscribed through Apple, Google or another provider, you must cancel with them, not Microsoft 365 directly.
  • Get a confirmation (on-screen or by email) and keep it as proof of the date you cancelled.

How to cancel Microsoft 365, step by step

  1. Go to account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the Microsoft account that bought the subscription.
  2. Find your Microsoft 365 subscription and select 'Manage' (may show as 'Upgrade or Cancel').
  3. Select 'Cancel subscription' (or 'Turn off recurring billing' to just stop it renewing).
  4. Review the cancellation page, then choose 'I don't want my subscription' and confirm.
  5. If you only see 'Turn on recurring billing', the subscription is already set to expire, so you are done.

Ways to cancel

Notice, fees & cooling-off

Notice period
Cancel more than 2 days before the billing date to avoid the next charge; access runs to expiry.
Early-exit charge
None. Refunds depend on region/timing (e.g. prorated in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey). Turning off recurring billing alone does NOT refund the current term.
